What the site does

Each of the 7 tools does one job that comes up on site every week: totaling man-hours in a daily report, counting open punch list items, pricing a daywork sheet, tracking certificate expiry dates, working out retention on a payment application, and calculating concrete, excavation and rebar quantities. Each tool runs in your browser and has a matching blank Excel template you can use offline.

The English pages are written for the UK, the US, Australia, Canada and Ireland. Other locations have their own texts, written in their own language for their own rules, not translated from English.

Why it was built

Site paperwork repeats the same small calculations, and spreadsheets copied from job to job can hide their formulas, so a mistake travels with them. The aim here is the opposite: every formula is shown, every reference value has a named source and a check date, and every worked example uses the same numbers as our calculation tests.

How content is checked

Legal and technical statements come only from sources we have read and recorded: legislation such as CDM 2015 and the Construction Act, US federal acquisition rules, manufacturers' data sheets and public technical manuals. Where we could only find a secondary source, the text says so. Where we found no source, we leave the value to you instead of guessing.

What the site is not

CivilManual is independent. It is not a public body, a regulator, a standards organization or a publisher of contract forms, and it is not affiliated with any of them. It gives no project-specific engineering, legal or commercial advice. Our templates are our own and are not copies of JCT, NEC, FIDIC, AIA or RICS documents.

The site does not name authors or reviewers, because we do not publish credentials we cannot show. If you find an error, write to info@civilmanual.com.
